Two sailors rushed after the child, their feet pounding through the sodden ground, as their rifles swung in their grip.

The remaining two donned leather gloves and began the process of lifting the bodies of the dead lepers and dumping them over the edge of the massive well.

Captain Avernus stood close to the edge of the well, as he enjoyed watching this bit. The well was very deep. He remembered once lowering a lantern as far as the rope would allow, and still not finding the bottom.

The sailors moved quickly, scooping up the dead and dying and heaving them over the side. Once every so often a damned soul would scream on the way down. The captain quite enjoyed that. It was his favourite scenario. He shot a glance at the two sailors who had chased the little girl into the barracks and wished he had captured her alive.
